  • 1/2 cup red split lentils
  • 1/2 tin chopped tomatoes
  • 2 chopped garlic clove
  • 1 inch ginger
  • 1 tbsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp chilli powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder

For tempering:

  • 1 tbsp oil
  • Some curry leaves
  • 2 dried chillies
  • 1 tbsp mustard seeds
  • 1 chopped garlic

Method

  • Fry cumin seeds in oil and then add tomatoes, clove and ginger
  • Add lentils and everything else.Simmer until cooked. Put in a bowl and set aside.
  • Fry the ingredients *for tempering. Pour on top of dhal. Serve with roti.
